Fall Fashion and an Update | Ashburn Fall Family Portraits

Wow – September is here! Bring on the sweaters, warm soups, apple cider and pumpkin spice everything!! As we approach one of my favorite times, it’s always fun to start thinking about what you’ll wear for your fall family portraits! I always encourage my clients to stick to a color scheme when planning outfits. By having things in the same color family it creates a cohesive look for your photos. Bonus points if you wear colors that coordinate with your home (because you want those images to look great on your walls right??!).

While every session comes with a pre-session consult where we talk about outfit choices and what not I thought I’d share a few ideas that I pulled together. I generally pick one piece and build the rest around it. So, if mom finds an amazing dress the we’ll build the rest around that dress. Or maybe there’s an adorable dress you’ve found for little girl (or an awesome sweater vest combo for your boy), you can build the rest of the outfits around it. I say to stick with one statement pieces but layer. Scarves and other accessories make for an easy quick change to add variety to your album.

Now, let’s take a look at a few of the options.  Here’s a navy and yellow combo.  Everyone is in jeans but the tops vary but coordinate (key = coordinate, not match!)

The next one is navy and cream/tan.  Mom has a great jacket with a cream shell underneath.  Dad and son coordinate in their khaki and blue.

This blush and cream is a beautiful option for a romantic field setting or even on grass.

Eggplant and cream is a personal favorite of mine.  I had a family a few years back use this scheme and it was beautiful!!  So rich and fresh.

And finally a very fall type color scheme.  You’d look amazing among the changing trees!!

So, have fun with it!  Coordinate, not match. And don’t forget to dress your feet too!!!  Nothing like a beautiful dress on mom and the kids and dad’s in ragged tennis shoes!

And a quick update on availability for the fall months.  Right now I have the most availability in September.   I’ve had a bunch of requests for October but please remember that your date is not guaranteed until you’ve paid your session fee and signed your contract.  I’ve been very careful with how many sessions I’m putting in each month to allow for rain delays or other unavoidable delays.   Click here to reserve your spot.
